The Olympic Zone was to encompass all of the facilities within the 500 acre (2 km²) Olympic Park in Stratford.
After the games the village was planned a become a district of the Stratford City development, a multi-billion pound development project on the former railway goods yard to the east of the Olympic Park.
The organisers claimed that 3,000 new permanent jobs would be created, but opponents of the games were concerned that some of the 11,000 existing jobs in the Olympic Zone may be lost [2].

He was the head of the London bid to host the 2012 Summer Olympics.
After the International Olympic Committee announced London as the winning bid, Coe became the chairman of the London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games, the organisation in charge of overseeing the development of the Games.
The most famous races between Ovett and Coe were in the 1980 Olympic Games in Moscow, where each won the other's speciality, Ovett the 800 metres, and Coe the 1500 metres, handing Ovett his first defeat at either one mile or 1500 metres in three years and 45 races.

London's triumphant bid team won the 2012 Olympics for Britain's capital earlier this year without using all the cash in their war chest, bid leader Sebastian Coe said on Tuesday.
London 2012 Ltd's bid budget was 29.1 million pounds, of which 20 million was in the form of grants from the Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) and London Development Agency (LDA), 10 million from each organisation.
The twice former Olympic 1,500 metres champion said the group's aim would be "to ensure the United Kingdom as a whole benefits from the great opportunities created by staging the Games in 2012".
