to 1986's 'Round Midnight to 1992's Malcolm X, Lonette McKee is well-respected as an actress.
Despite having an impressive vocal range and strong songwriting skills, McKee is much better known for her film roles than for her albums.
Released in 1978, Words and Music is a decent to excellent R&B/pop effort that deserved a lot more attention than it received.

As soon as Monty, forgoing the "wimp" clause that would put a cool million in his pocket to call off the challenge, steps outside the lawyers' office, he starts spending, showering friends (including Candy's Spike) with gifts and luring minimum-wagers away from their place of employment to work at abstract jobs of his spontaneous invention.
Although she happens to be engaged to an evil attorney (Stephen Collins) masterminding Monty's ultimate downfall, we know how these things go--and the quiet courtship of Monty and Angela is probably the picture's greatest strength.
Pryor's character knows he just has to wait it out for this woman, that patience will nurture something between them, and McKee manages to suggest an accountant first and a love interest second, bringing integrity to a role all but mandated in the Syd Field era.

SPLICEDwire | "Honey" movie review (2003) "Honey" review, Bille Woodruff, Jessica Alba, Mekhi Phifer
Even worse, the film is littered with the kind of stale stock characters that make you feel embarrassed for the actors deigned to play them.
The promising Joy Bryant ("Antwone Fisher") is Honey's finger-snapping, "you go, girl!" best friend, and Tony-nominated Lonette McKee is Honey's disapproving mother, who actually says, "Oh, sweetie, I don't know why you can't just teach a class at a nice ballet school uptown."
It's Honey herself, however, that is the movie's most preposterous amalgam of hackneyed sweetheart-heroine characteristics.

This 1977 American variation on Lina Wertmuller's The Seduction of Mimi, the story of a stupid man's troubles in sex and politics, is a run-of-the-mill Richard Pryor vehicle.
Noteworthy only for its casting of two good actresses, Lonette McKee and Margaret Avery, and Pryor's multiple roles as an orange picker, a lecherous old man, and a minister, the film is made without a lot of care or effort to rise to Wertmuller's satiric accomplishment.
It simply tells the story of Leroy Jones's (a young man, who leads a life of stagnant impoverishment), relocation to the big city.
