		Long Acre’s properties became known for coachmakers, requiring high arches for cartwrights to wheel out their wares.
		The Odham brothers were the next protagonists of change for Long Acre, or rather it was Julius Salter Elias, their office boy, whom the brothers made manager as their publishing firm was about to go out of business.
		It was opened in 1906 on the corner of Long Acre and James Street, designed by Leslie Grant it is resplendent in its dignified, cherry red tiling and the embossed name lettering on white tile, much of the interior tiling is also original.

		Long Pond Ironworks was founded in 1766 and operated continually until 1882, making iron for a wide range of purposes.
		The 175-acre Long Pond Ironworks Historic District is an example of the ironworks plantations established in the American Colonies prior to independence.
		The village and furnaces at Long Pond produced iron for the Continental Army, for the American forces in the War of 1812, and for the Union Army during the Civil War.

		The Committee on Land and Water Conservation for the Vilas County Board of Supervisors held a petition hearing for the formation of the Long Lake (of Vilas County) Lake District as the successor to the Long Lake of Vilas County Lake Association at 3 p.m.
		Of interest is that both sides basically agreed that Long Lake had an invasive species problem with Eurasian Watermilfoil, but the disagreement was over the manner and structure of the organization best equipped to deal with the problem.
		It is reported that the GPS aquatic plant survey conducted by the DNR in August of 2006 identified 51 acres of the lake’s total 872 acres as having EWM present in some amount.

	History of Long Pond Ironworks
		Long Pond Ironworks was founded in 1766 by the German ironmaster Peter Hasenclever.
		At Long Pond, they dammed the river in order to provide water power to operate the air blast for a furnace and a large forge.
		Long Pond also illustrates the evolution of ironmaking technology, as shown in the remains of the three successive furnaces, the ore roaster and the hydropower systems.
