LONG BEACH, Calif. - The Long Beach Ice Dogs might have been swept out of the ECHL Kelly Cup Playoffs by the Alaska Aces, but, for a change, things are looking up.
Much of the credit for the Ice Dogs' on-ice accomplishments this season has to go to coach and general manager Malcolm Cameron, who assembled a competitive team from scratch after taking over for Kevin Kaminski.
The Ice Dogs have one year left on their lease at the Long Beach Arena, the second-oldest facility in the ECHL, and they are already in negotiations with the city for an extension.

For the first time in three years, the Long Beach Ice Dogs are in the playoffs, entering the post season with the third best record in the East Coast Hockey League.
While it is good news the Dogs make the playoffs, one of the challenges is they are in the deepest division in terms of talent in the league.
For the Ice Dogs, rookie Marco Rosa was named to the ECHL’s all-rookie team, finishing the season with 33 goals and 64 points.

 Los Angeles Ice Dogs
The team was originally founded as the International Hockey League San Diego Gulls in 1995 (not to be confused with the current West Coast Hockey League (WCHL) San Diego Gulls founded in 1995).
They were shortly thereafter relocated to Los Angeles and renamed Ice Dogs for the 1995-1996 season.
The team switched their league affiliation to the WCHL for the 2000-2001 season and then to the ECHL (formerly East Coast Hockey League) for the 2003-2004 season.
