Long Branch is a former village that is now part of the City of Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
The area is bounded by Lake Ontario on the south, Etobicoke Creek to the west, the Canadian National railway to the north and Kipling Avenue to the east.
In 1967, the Village of Long Branch was amalgamated with the Township of Etobicoke and the Towns of New Toronto and Mimico to form the Borough of Etobicoke.

The Wright Family, extensive land owners in the community, donated this small parcel of land to the village of Long Branch to be held in perpetuity.

Modifications to the bolt release mechanism of the No. 4 were approved for Savage and Long Branch rifles, leading to the changeover at these factories in 1942 from the No. 4 Mk I to the No. 4 Mk I* Rifle.
In December 1945 Small Arms Ltd. ceased operations, and the Long Branch factory was operated after that by the Small Arms Division of Canadian Arsenals Ltd. (CAL).
CAL ceased operations at Long Branch in June 1976.

Located between Long Branch Avenue & 31st Street and south of Lake Promenade in western greater Toronto, this waterfront park was started in 1884 by a group of investors, headed by Thomas Wilkie.
There is also a report that the Canadian military used Long Branch for aircraft training during part of The Great War, but it's unclear if this means the park or not.
Perhaps some or all of it was taken over for war-time purposes and the park never reopened afterwards.

Several thousand were manufactured, and at least 1000 were purchased by the Canadian government and issued to the Royal Canadian Air Force for use as a survival rifle, and to the Canadian Northern Rangers for use as a standard longarm.
This variant is a "sporter" version of the Long Branch military rifle (Figure 1), but it is NOT a "sporterized" No. 4 Mk I*--it is a newly-manufactured rifle!
The action bodies are not stamped with the usual "No. 4 Mk I*" model identification or the "Long Branch" factory designation, nor were they dated or serial numbered by C.A.L. They do bear Canadian proof marks and C.A.L. inspector's marks, however, these being from the time period of 1953 to 1960.

thus, a No. 4 rifle is generally referred to by collectors as being a "Fazakerley", a "Maltby", a "Shirley" or a "Long Branch".
The exception to that general rule of thumb seems to be the American-built rifles - one of those is generally called a "Savage"...

Once "in service" these rifles were issued as a kit, which consisted of a transit case, a scope-carrying bag and can, a leather U.S. M1907 sling and a spotting telescope.
The conversion of Long Branch and Savage No4 MkI*'s were conducted in the same fashion as where the No4 MkI's, although these rifles were sent to and converted by Small Arms Limited of Canada at the Long Branch Ontario factory, using CNo32 scopes and finally re-named No4 MkI*(T).
