Long Tall Weekend was an Internet-only album by They Might Be Giants and was released in 1999 (see 1999 in music).
It was the first full-length album ever released exclusively on the Internet with the exception of some promotional CDs.

They Might Be Giants’ Long Tall Weekend is MP3-only, but it’s largely a collection of songs Giant-heads have heard before or will hear somewhere else.
Most of Weekend’s best moments have Linnell behind the microphone — the Flansburgh tracks are a little more straight-ahead pop, reminiscent of his side project, Mono Puff.
Long Tall Weekend is available from www.emusic.com for $8.99.

Splendid E-zine reviews: They Might Be Giants
But TMBG always seem to have a lot of unreleased recordings sitting around...and so we get Long Tall Weekend -- a collection of alternate versions, unreleased songs, dial-a-song tracks and oddities that were gathering dust, albeit in the best sense of the phrase.
The quality on Long Tall Weekend is consistently high -- the disc merely lacks the cohesive feel and thematic structure of a more deliberately-assembled album.
If MP3s are your cup of tea, Long Tall Weekend can be yours in minutes; if not, you'll be reassured to know that Splendid's review copy came on CD, proving once again that music reviewers can be stubborn Luddite bastards when we see fit.

Nude as the News: They Might Be Giants: Long Tall Weekend   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-08)
As a They Might Be Giants album, Long Tall Weekend lies somewhere near the bottom of the band's oeuvre.
Many of the tunes on Long Tall Weekend are culled from these Dial-A-Song tapes or other songs TMBG created on the fly and for one reason or another deemed unworthy for one of their regular-issue albums (the seventh of which is due out next Spring).
Long Tall Weekend is best-suited for fans already familiar with most of TMBG's regular-issue work, but it must be admired for its revolutionary format: kudos to GoodNoise/Emusic for providing a forum for electronic file-based music releases.

It's a neat way to start the album; I prefer having an opening theme of sorts to starting an album with the song that's supposed to be a "hit" (not that Long Tall Weekend really has any of those).

Pop-Culture-Corn: Music: John Linnell - State Songs
The opening track, "Illinois," is performed entirely on a vintage band organ, which required Linnell to recruit a technician to punch his melodies into a roll of paper and then run the roll featuring his song through a massive band organ.
One organ on the album was found in an afficianado's home in Long Island, another inside the carousel in Central Park.
Four songs feature band organ along with Linnell's vocals and instrumental additions, but it's this first song that spotlights the organ most effectively and sets the perfect playful tone for the rest of the album.

All of these albums are interesting and good, since they're They Might Be Giants and would have trouble being bad if they were trying to, but when you get right down to it the band has not done a whole album of new songs since Factory Showroom in '96.

One last track originally released on Long Tall Weekend, Token Back to Brooklyn, is actually a song that many They Might Be Giants fans may already have.
Since there were over thirty songs on the original CD, none of them turned out to be very long, and most sound like half-formed ideas that never developed enough to make a full song.
