 Long-Billed Corella
Also known as the Eastern Long-billed Corella, Slender-billed Corella, and Long-billed Cockatoo.
This is a small (35-41 cm) white cockatoo with a strong pink (or reddish-orange) suffusion on the face and breast, a short square-ended tail, pointed wings, and a large rounded head with a very short crest and an elliptical pale blue eye-ring.
During feeding, the bill is used as a plow to dig a furrow and expose any edible material; the birds commonly become stained on the head and underparts through contact with soil.

 Welcome to Perth Zoo!
The Eastern Long-billed Corella (Cacatua tenuirostris) is found in south-eastern Australia whilst in southern Western Australia exists the Western Long-billed Corella in two distinct subspecies.
The major threat to the southern subspecies of the Western Long-billed Corella seems to be from poisoning by locals who regard them as pests to crops.
Corellas are a distinctive group of three different species of white cockatoos found throughout Australia.

 Birds of Perth
In Perth, all species are increasing, especially the Long-billed Corella which may be a threat to the endemic Western Corella, which is thought to be interbreeding with Little Corella, and this may lead to it's demise in the area.
Three species of Corella occur in the Perth area, the Western Corella and Little Corella occur naturally, but the Long-billed Corella is introduced, through aviary escapes.
Corellas pose a threat to agriculture as they decimate crops and can invade orchards.

Birds » Parrots » Corella - Long Billed, Western Main Page
Western Long-billed Corellas make darling aviary birds and are known by the scientific name of Cacatua tenuirostris pastinator.
In cultivated areas, Long-billed Corellas can seriously harm grain or millet and rice fields, and are endangered in some areas because they are persecuted as agricultural pests.
Because their bills are used to dig wild roots, they must have an aviary with a cement floor, and will be very destructive to wood because they love to chew.

 Old World Aviaries: Slender-billed Corellas
Slender-billed Corellas are characterized by small crests that are hardly visible when not erect and light-colored beaks with the maxilla tapering to a long sharp point.
Slender-billed Corellas come in two species, Western ( Cacatua pastinator) and Eastern ( Cacatua tenuirostris, 5-day old and 20-day old at left, juveniles at right).Western Slender-bills look more like Little Corellas (Bare-eyed Cockatoos) than do Easterns.
Western Corellas make excellent pets “for those … who can cater for a highly intelligent and mischievous bird that cannot be left unattended outside its cage…” According to our friends who have them, they are delightful pets.

 Class
There is at least one Corella species and one bigger White Cockatoo species native to Australia that coexists in the some distributional (apart from the fact that all Australian cockatoos coexist with theGalah (Eolophus roseicapillus).
Another problem arises within the taxonomy of the Australian Corella species in two or three species.
The Palm Cockatoo (Probosciger aterrimus) has a beautiful crest and a very powerful bill, his upper bill is huge and very sharp and does remind of a bill of the bigger macaw species.

 Cockatoo Agression by Sam Foster
Beginning the work to achieve our own position is not only easier when the bird is very young, but the long term effects of these lessons, when they are taught and reinforced from an early age with gentle guidance, are more successful and usually more consistent.
An extensive data base would have to be set up to track and document the long term behavior of pairs, as well as the dominant or aggressive behavior of pet birds.
Relative to the concept of learned aggression, I find it interesting that I have neither seen, nor read research of, mate aggression in breeding pairs that was thought to be learned by one bird from another bird in an adjoining aviary.

The Cacatua family comprises the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo (the most commonly seen member of the family), the Major Mitchell Cockatoo (as illustrated), the Short-billed Corella, and the Western and Eastern Long-billed Corellas.
Cockatoos consume a wide variety of foods, from seeds to insects, blossoms, roots and fruit.

 Parrot killing in Onkaparinga
Corellas are highly intelligent, sensitive, sentient cockatoos approximately 35 to 40 cm in length.
This time it's the turn of the Corella and the venue is Onkaparinga where these beautiful and highly intelligent birds are considered noisy and guilty of creating too much 'debris'.
The Onkaparinga Council's Corella Control Task Force is considering two options:

 BirdForum - Little/Long-billed Corella
At the time I decided that they were Long-billed but watching Wild Down Under tonight reminds me that i've never been 100% convinced that they weren't Little Corellas.
With the Little Corellas, again it is not certain whether they are ex-captivity or whether it is a natural movement to the coast from a more inland distribution.
In June 2002 I encountered a number of corellas in a park on the south-east edge of Adelaide city centre (near the Race course I think).

 Corella Volume 23
Corellas (n=10) were offered 4 feeds simultaneously in free-choice trials; whole and hulled oats and whole and hulled sunflower seeds.
While the inclusion of green dye in oat baits may provide some initial protection to Corellas, this may not be a lasting effect in situations where birds have consecutive opportunities to feed.
Hulled oats offer a suitable and practicall bait for use in field trials as it is readily consumed by captive Corellas, it is economical and widely available and may be an appropriate vehicle for chemical deterrents.

 Report - Bungendore bus safari - (15 August 1999)
Long-billed Corellas are uncommon in our area and it is hard to know if this one was an aviary escapee or a truly wild bird.
The third highlight was hearing and then seeing a Long-billed Corella in Scribbly Gum woodland on a private property on the Bungendore Ridge.
At first we heard a call repeated which reminded me of a corella, and we were then amazed to find it was indeed a Long-billed.
