Car production is to restart at the former MG Rover plant at Longbridge in the first half of 2007, two years after the last British-owned volume car maker collapsed into administration with the loss of 6,000 jobs.
Nanjing has moved the bulk of the Longbridge equipment to a new plant being built at its home base which will have the capacity to produce 200,000 cars and 250,000 engines a year.
The first model to be manufactured at Longbridge will be the MG TF sports car but NAC is looking at bringing the upmarket MG ZT range into production in 2008.
