Mission Improvable : Longform Shows : Improv - Sketch Comedy
The essential tenets of longform improvisation are difficult to state, because one of the central ideals of this type of work is that nothing has to stay the same.
Without delving too much into history (if you want to delve into the history, see our links page-- there's a lot good stuff on there), modern longform improvisation is an improvised performance piece that takes a single audience suggestion as a foundation to spontaneously create characters, situations and patterns.
When done well, a longform piece defies description and is referenced with awe by those who were lucky enough to see it in its first, last and only performance ever

Longform improvisation, often referred to simply as longform, is an approach to improvisational theater and improvisational comedy consisting of one or more scenes which are connected by a narrative thread or theme.
Longform improvisation is the predominant form of improvisational performance in Chicago, considered the birthplace of contemporary improvisational theater.
Longforms are often developed to explore specific subject matter, such as political commentary, or styles, as in the emulation of cinematographic techniques in the Movie longform.

This is the Harold, a longform style of improv where performers get one audience suggestion and use it as a spring board to launch into a continuous flow of scenes.
Longform, on the other hand, is the more fluid show style, in which improvised scenes last longer because they’re not separated into distinct skits.
Harold Night is the most widely-performed longform improv, based in Chicago and created by Del Close, the namesake of the Del Close Marathon performed annually at the Upright Citizens Brigade theater in New York.

Amnesia Wars is an ensemble theater troupe based in New York City committed to fearlessness, advancement and excellence in longform improvisation and original scripted comedy.
Longform improvisation (in case you didn't know) in simplest terms, is a completely improvised play, based upon minimal audience suggestion.
Amnesia Wars' particular brand of improvisation combines the theories and techniques of such improv pioneers as Del Close, Mick Napier, and the founders of the Second City with the concepts and practices of "conventional" (for lack of a better term) and avant-garde theatre.

Longform Comics On The Web: That Which Should Not Be | Comixpedia
Longform webcomics will have the same problems until somebody figures out how to do a longform webcomic that also takes advantage of the "lean forward" nature of the medium.
Longform comics are also much easier to write, because you don't need that gag every page, a single idea can be comfortably stretched out over an entire chapter, so writing shouldn't be holding anyone back either unless they're trying to force themselves to do a story they just can't handle.
If longform comics are going to have a long-term future on the web, however, their creators (and, yes, I'm including myself!) will have to get used to creating comics designed to fit the format.

Massive Creativity, Houston’s premiere longform improvisational theater company is running another edition of The Weekender at the Midtown Arts Center from November 18-20, 2005.
Instead of playing a sequence of small improvised “games” that require many audience suggestions and depend on gimmicks, Massive Creativity’s ensembles perform longform improv -- take one single audience suggestion and weave a 45 minute show that is a universe of interrelated scenes and monologues that revolve around that suggestion.
Longform improv was cultivated in Chicago over the past twenty years, and is now spreading to other cities.

Short form improvisation is performed around the world and is closely identified with the competitive improv formats of ComedySportz and Theatresports.
In long form, often termed Longform, performers create shows in which improvised scenes are connected and progressive, interrelated by story, characters, or themes.
Audiences are often asked for one or more suggestions or inputs which drive the narrative of the performance, as opposed to the more structured short form.

Production personnel must also assure that all contractors are registered with the state, have workers’ compensation insurance, and comply with state legislative requirements with regard to health and sanitation.
We have suggested that smaller companies employ strong in-house monitors and select contractors who are monitored by larger companies, and this has been the path of choice.

DGA | CREATIVE RIGHTS | POSITION ON WGA PROPOSALS
The controversy over the efforts by the WGA to expand the role of feature and longform television writers at the expense of the creative rights of directors has escalated in recent months and threatens to be a major part of the WGA's contract negotiations with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP).
The DGA believes it is extremely important that our members have a clear understanding of the current WGA proposals and their potential to adversely affect not only our membership but also the entire entertainment industry.
The WGA's own documents demonstrate that the WGA is seeking from the AMPTP contractual rights that would increase the role of feature and longform television writers in the movie-making process at the expense of directors, artistic content and budgets.
