Looe (Cornish: Logh) is a coastal town in the Caradon district of south-east Cornwall, England, UK, with a population of 5280 (2001 census).
West Looe was given free borough status sometime after this (the first known historical mention of the town dates from 1327) and in the 1230s East Looe gained the right to hold a weekly market and a Michaelmas fair.
Looe's main business today is, however, tourism, with much of the town given over to hotels, guest houses and holiday homes, along with a large number of pubs, restaurants, and shops selling beach equipment, ice cream and Cornish pasties.

The ancient towns of East and West Looe are situated in the deanery and Hundred of West; they are bounded on the north by Duloe and Morval, on the east by St Martins, on the south by the sea, and on the west by Talland.
East Looe, the larger of the two towns is situated at the foot of a hill 200 feet in height; it anciently bore the name of 'Loo' or Looe.
The Parish of Sclerder with Looe covers a large area from Polruan to Seaton, and from the English Channel to its border with Liskeard parish, but since Liskeard parish is served from Sclerder, the area from the English Channel to the A30 and Bodmin Moor is served by one priest.

While crossing the reef, the HMS Looe hit hard in only 25 feet of water and quickly burned to the waterline, taking the accompanying ship with her.
But some pieces of thin copper, possibly hull sheathing, and a piece of concrete located in that area of the reef seem to indicate that the ballast and wreckage found there may be from a wreck more closely resembling a 19th century merchantman.
The reef at Looe Key, roughly 200 yards wide and 800 yards long is generally “U” shaped, and is comprised of both patch and outside reefs.

The parish of Looe whose name means 'pool or inlet' is on the south coast of Cornwall.
There are actually two towns, East and West Looe, divided by the estuary of the Looe River and connected by a nine arch bridge rebuilt in 1853 due to the lack of maintenance as neither east or west would accept responsibility for the upkeep.
The Looe valley rail line “a single track railway” which runs between Liskeard & Looe is well worth the round trip and a good excuse to leave the car behind and spend time taking in the market town of Liskeard.
