Lookout Mountain, actually a plateau, is located at the northwest corner of Georgia, the northeast corner of Alabama, and along the southern border of Tennessee near Chattanooga.
Lookout Mountain was the scene of the Battle of Chattanooga during the American Civil War.
On November 23, 1863 the Battle Above the Clouds was fought on the slopes of Lookout Mountain.

The roots of Lookout Mountain are in Alabama, some fifty miles to the south and west of Chattanooga, Tennessee.
The Lookout Mountain area (at least the area at the bottom of the mountain) was among the earliest settled in North Georgia and Tennessee.
