		Fully half of the films in the collection were released during the three peak years of 1949-51 (ten in 1950 alone).
		THE GOLDEN COLLECTION is worth more than its cost in dollars and is an infinitely better investment than the cheap alternate "Premiere Collection", which simply duplicates Discs Three and Four with no extras.
		The Premiere Collection is kiddie fodder for the undiscerning bargain-store shopper and is to be avoided by anyone concerned with art and popular culture.

		As soon as the four-disc 'Golden Collection' had been announced, the grumbling among fans began: the set contained 'only' 56 cartoons; there was an over-emphasis on director Chuck Jones; the Road Runner and Pepe le Pew were under-represented; personal favorites had not been included; etc. etc.
		Two separate box sets were released for Region 1: a four-disc 'Golden Collection' featuring 56 cartoons and plentiful extras, and a more budget-friendly two-disc 'Premiere Collection', with the 28 cartoons from the third and fourth disc of the other set, but without any extras.
		For Region 2, the four discs from the 'Golden Collection' set have been released individually, with all but a few extras intact from the American box set: the documentaries 'The Boys from Termite Terrace' and 'The Golden Age of Looney Tunes' have for some reason been omitted from the European discs.

		The cartoons included on the set are uncut, unedited, and digitally restored and remastered from the original successive Technicolor film negatives (or, in the case of the fl and white shorts, the original fl and white negatives).
		However, some of the cartoons in these collections are derived from the "blue ribbon" reissues (altered from their original versions with their revised front-and-end credit sequences), as the original titles for these cartoons are presumably lost.
		A handful of cartoons in the first two collections have also had digital video noise reduction (or DVNR) applied to them, which unintentionally erases or blurs some of the picture on certain scenes of the cartoons, which has caused controversy among some Looney Tunes fans.

		It is quite simply the best collection of animated shorts that have been released in the format.
		This 4-DVD set is a wonderful look at the Looney Tunes from the start, through their glory years in the '40s and '50s, and on into the famed TV reruns and made-for-TV shorts in the '60s and '70s.
		Behind the Tunes, a series of 4-5 minute biographies of different characters, are also showcased here as is an episode of Toon Heads from Cartoon Network {that's on DVD 3}.

		Also reported on classic animation websites is the use of interlacing on a handful of cartoons on the collection, which distorts the picture of the cartoons when viewed on a high definition televison or a computer monitor.
		Although the interlacing of the cartoons has not been as controversial among Looney Tunes fans as DVNR, many have nonetheless raised concern over the process and have insisted that Warner Home Video encode the cartoons onto DVD using progressive scan only.
