And I wonder if the loose ends don't invite playful speculation, since the writer knows that not all the hints of the essay have to be played out or tracked down or mastered.
Seeing that I'm several hundred words into note-taking for a radio essay that is due in about 60 hours, without having found the emotion or thought that will make the notes cohere, maybe it's time to read Hoagland's comments as advice and see if they help me write.
