The Blackadders can be traced back to an Anglo-Saxon royal line of kings starting with Edmund I who reigned from 939-946, ending when he was horribly murdered by a thief in a brawl at a party.
Lord Blackadder was in service to Elizabeth I, and most of his life was spent chasing her ideals and dreams.
It is recorded at this point that the Blackadder family had somehow lost all its lands and titles, but how this happened is not recorded, but is speculated to have been due to accruing major gambling debts.
