Lord of Mann - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Lord of Mann is the current ruler of the Isle of Man.
The current Lord of Mann is Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.
In 1765, Charlotte Murray, 8th Baroness Strange sold the island to the British government for £70,000 and the reigning Monarch of the United Kingdom became the Lord of Mann.

Also present was Lauchlan, the custodian of Mann, who had brought to the meeting all his partisans and all whom he had been able to persuade to come along that day, since he feared Neil's sons on account of some hostility still existing between them.
The event was notable because Lords of Mann had rarely presided over Tynwald in person; in fact it was the last recorded instance of the Lord of Mann being present until King George VI's visit in 1945.

As a result of a decision of the House of Lords in 1994, it is now open to Ministers to weigh the competing public interests for themselves.
In Duncan v Cammell Laird (1942) the House of Lords held that the court was bound to accept a minister's claim that a document had to be withheld in the public interest.
Thereafter the duty of the minister was to claim PII where it applied and to leave it to the courts to balance the competing interests and decide whether the documents should be disclosed, unless it was thought that on any view the court was bound to order disclosure.

The Election of Mann - Chapter 2
I was there in the beginning, naive and untried, wed to your mother, Soul, and was the Lord Mayor of the city of Mann until the day your father, Twist-Truth, came along and seduced her.
Since that fall, she has made a bond, unlawful though it is, with the Body and township of Mann, but I do not find fault with her for this infidelity toward me, for I am still her true husband, and as such I still love her and seek only her good.
It is for this reason that I have entered the race for Lord Mayor of Mann, so that I might not only take my rightful place as leader of Mann, but also to attract and draw Soul once again into her rightful, subservient place as under my headship and direction.

Normally, both houses of Tynwald must pass a bill before it goes to the Monarch of the United Kingdom, in her capacity as Lord of Mann, for formal assent.
As of 2005, the Island's system of government is under review — there are plans to transform the Legislative Council into a directly-elected chamber, echoing the push for reform in the UK's House of Lords and the abolition of indirectly elected Conseillers in Guernsey.
To date, no legislation has successfully passed through the House of Keys and given the fact that the issue has been high up the political agenda for over a decade, change does not seem to be forthcoming in the short term.
