Lord of the Flies (phrase) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lord of the Flies is the title of a novel by William Golding.
Lord of the Flies is the English-language translation of the Hebrew word Beelzebub, which in turn is a mistranslation of the name of the Semitic devil Baal-zevuv.
In a less literal sense, to be 'lord of the flies' is to rule over a worthless kingdom; Golding's novel presents a microcosm in which children fight and die to promulgate and dominate a broken, meaningless society.

In the novel Lord of the Flies, the author, William Golding, pays alot of attention to decribing the setting in great detail, and the setting reflects the actions of the novel and/or the characters.
Another way the setting reflected the actions of the novel is in the last chapter, the chapter in which the "lord of the flies" is found, and the boys are finally rescued.
The setting in Lord of the Flies is essential for foreshadowing the events that will happen or actions of the characters.

Almost immediately, Ralph is described as a "fair boy." This phrase indicates a stereotype of the perfect child--blonde hair and blue eyes with blemish-free skin--which the author manipulated to show innocence.
