Pope, now a vibrant man of 95 years, was animated and excited to talk about the home that his heart has never left.
Pope’s room was rather drab, with unremarkable carpet on the floor and unimaginative paint on the walls.
Pope was finished speaking and answering questions, we were given an opportunity to tour the home with many of the docents.

Loren Pope was a Washington newspaperman who became concerned with the lack of consumer information on colleges that has led to disastrous choices in which only three in ten freshmen are on the same campuses, or even in college, on cap and gown day.
Pope’s first book, The Right College: How to Get In, Stay In, Get Back In (Macmillan, 1970) and several magazine articles followed, including the nationally syndicated “Twenty Myths That Can Jinx Your College Choice,” first published in The Washington Post Magazine and later as “Facts to Know in Picking a College” by Readers’ Digest.
Loren Pope retired after over 35 years of counseling and has passed the torch on to Martha (Marty) O’Connell.

 Is this a good source for considering colleges?
I recently read the book Colleges That Change Lives, by Loren Pope, and I was wondering how accurate this book is in depicting the situation of colleges nowadays and in particular, the 40 colleges that it refers to.
Pope has named 40 and there are a lot more.
Loren Pope is somewhat biased - a little too much of a cheerleader at times - he tends to ignore any negatives about the schools he covers.

The Loren Pope (Pope-Leighey) House (1939) was originally built in Falls Church, Virginia and relocated to Woodlawn Plantation in Mount Vernon, Virginia (1964).
Built in 1939 at a cost of $7,000 (including the land and built-in furniture), the house is an example of the Usonian Houses that Wright designed for people of moderate means.
Leighey continued to reside in the house until her death.
