		John Wayne Bobbitt (born 23 March 1967) and Lorena Bobbitt (née Lorena Gallo, born in 1968 or 1969 in Bucay, Ecuador) were an American couple, best known for a 1993 incident in which Lorena severed a portion of John's penis with a kitchen knife.
		On the night of June 23, 1993, Bobbitt cut several inches off her husband's sex organ with a kitchen knife as he lay sleeping in their Manassas, Virginia, home.
		An ironic facet of the incident in which his penis was severed is that the name "Bobbitt" is a homophone for an expression meaning "cut it short".
