Lorenzo Homar (10 September 1913 - 16 February 2004), born in the "Barrio" Puerta de Tierra of San Juan, Puerto Rico, is considered by many to be Puerto Rico's greatest graphic artist.
Homar returned to Puerto Rico in 1950, where together with other artists, such as Julio Rosado del Valle and Rene Marques, was the co-founder of the "Centro de Arte Puertorriqueño" (Puerto Rican Arts Center).
Lorenzo Homar died in the city of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

 Lorenzo Homar
on of Spanish immigrants from Mallorca, Lorenzo Homar was born in Puerta de Tierra, a "barrio" of San Juan, Puerto Rico, in 1913.
Raised in a home where his father, Lorenzo Homar Zampol, was a cultural and artistic promotor and his mother, Margarita Gelabert, a piano enthusiast.
Among the many honors Lorenzo Homar has received, in 1978 the Ponce Art Museum organizes a retrospective exhibition, the Metropolitan Museum of Art purchases a number of his works and the University of Puerto Rico grants him a Doctorate "Honoris Causa".

Lorenzo Homar is a principal figure in the formation of Puerto Rican national art.
Homar returned to Puerto Rico in 1950 to become a founding member of the Center of Puerto Rican Art (CAP), and he joined the staff of the Division of Community Education where he was named director the following year.
Lorenzo Homar has special cause to identify with this iconography based on the similarly public mission of his art.

An Homage to Lorenzo Homar and The Reverend Pedro Pietri, an original exhibition featuring select works by the two major, recently deceased Puerto Rican masters who highlighted poetry, language, and texts in their works.
Homar’s graphic renditions of political and poetic texts served as means to crystallize the voices of his contemporaries, such as Pablo Neruda, Toma's Blanco, Julia de Burgos and Federico Garci'a Lorca.
On display are these artists’ integrations of text and image as signs, brochures and other projects that, by reaching outside the art world, convey political, social and cultural messages as assertions of this generations’ place in society, and illustrate a critical approach to the maintenance of the Latino visual-literary tradition.

As many as 30 to 40 manual runs were used in the making of each poster, which were characterized also by an expressive use of typography and textures.

Artist Lorenzo Homar designed the symbol of the VIII Pan American Games.
Born in Puerta de Tierra, Puerto Rico in 1913, Homar emigrated to New York when he was a teenager and began working for the Cartier jewelry company.
Homar selected the collar because of its cultural and sports heritage.

A native of San Sebastián, Puerto Rico, painter Francisco Rodón was born in 1934.
The real life of the town, with its gloominess and misery, passes through Tufiño's hand, becoming an artistic theme and an advocate for a new social and political conscience.
In 1954, he was awarded a Guggenheim Scholarship, and created a portfolio called "El café." In 1955, he created the portfolio "La Plena" with Lorenzo Homar and newcomer Tomás Blanco.

This is the first art exhibition of the Puerto Rican Taíno (The Taíno were the dominant culture in the Caribbean in pre-Columbian times) to be shown in North America.
The installation runs from December 10, 2004, through April 20, 2005, and will be housed at Taller Puertorriqueño’s Galería Lorenzo Homar on 2721 North 5th Street in Philadelphia.
The decision to focus on the Puerto Rican Taíno archaeological material is an effort to recognize the roots and memories of Philadelphia’s Latino community.

In collaboration with Lorenzo Homar, José A. Torres Martinó, and Félix Rodriguez Báez, he founded Centro de Arte Puertorriqueña (CAP), where he honed his linocut techniques.
During the 1950s, Tufiño produced a significant group of prints, including several renowned graphics portfolios, including El café (for which he received a Guggenheim Fellowship), and Plenas (in collaboration with Lorenzo Homar, which masterfully combined images, words, and musical scores).
Tufiño painted the important large-scale mural La Plena from 1952 -1954, and, during this same period, he developed and exhibited a significant body of award-winning paintings, prints, drawings, and artist´s posters.

 Myrna Baez biografía
The Argentine art critic Marta Traba dedicated her a whole chapter in the controversial book "Propuesta polémica sobre el arte en Puerto Rico", where she described Báez as "the most qualified person I know in the visual arts in Puerto Rico".
Báez studied in the University of Puerto Rico, the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid, the Printmaking Workshop of the Instituto de Cultura Puertorriqueña with Lorenzo Homar and in the Printmaking Workshop of Pratt Institute of New York.
She has been professor of printmaking in the University of the Sacred Heart and the Escuela de Artes Plásticas.
