Lorraine Segato (born Hamilton, Ontario) is a Canadian pop singer-songwriter, who was best known as the lead vocalist for 1980s new wave group Parachute Club.
After that group broke up, Segato released a solo album, Phoenix, in 1990.
Segato has also worked in film production, writing and directing a documentary on Toronto, Ontario's late 1970s/early 1980s Queen Street West scene, Queen Street West, The Rebel Zone, and as a lecturer and social justice activist.

Formed by the singer Lorraine Segato and the percussionist Billy Bryans, it emerged from the Queen Street West neighbourhood of clubs and art galleries that flourished during the 1980s.
It won Juno Awards in 1984 for single of the year ('Rise up') and as most promising group, in 1985 as group of the year, and in 1986 for best video ('Love is Fire,' directed by Ron Berti).
Segato (b Hamilton, Ont, 17 Jun 1956) undertook a solo career in 1989, forming the band Big Jump (with Dave Gray and others) and recording the album Phoenix (WEA CD-71202).

Lorraine Segato, the producer of the event, says this idea came about because Layton and the new NDP are at a point where they really understand the importance of culture in terms of dialogue in social justice.
While Segato wants to stress that not all of the performers at this event are hardcore NDPs she said they do believe in the message that Layton is saying which is that culture is a very important aspect in any kind of change, and the voices of that culture need to be heard.
Segato affirms that the night is not a political rally or fundraiser.

This Toronto politico-musical troupe had its beginnings back in 1977 when Lorraine Segato, Lauri Conger and Billy Bryans became fixtures on Toronto's Queen Street circuit as part of a six-piece band called Mama Quilla II.
For their second album, "At The Feet Of The Moon", they added new bassist Keir Brownstone and charted with the title track that was bolstered by a 12” EP featuring a dance remix and several versions of their previous hit “Rise Up”.
Lorraine Segato moved onto a solo career which continues today, while Billy Bryans began doing session work for other recording acts, producing and is currently running a music promotion company that helps international music from the Far-East, Africa and Europe gain exposure in North America.
