The song was originally released in 1993, as a rumba.
The song was also covered by Los del Mar, which was first released in 1995 and then again at the same time as the original in the United Kingdom in the hope of fooling people into buying their version by mistake.
The song originally had no dance, until a Venezuelan Flamenco instructor created it for her class to dance to, and it eventually caught on with the rest of the world.

§9. "Europe" and "The Song of Los". IX. Blake. Vol. 11. The Period of the French Revolution. The Cambridge History ...
Yet, some seed of song fell into the sandy wastes of Blake’s ethical disputations, and sprang up and blossomed in spite of the tearing up of noxious moral heresies in their neighbourhood.
Such are the delicate minor melody of The Wild Flower’s Song, the lines I told my love, To My Myrtle—a notable instance, by the way, of Blake’s rigorous use of the file in his lyrics—and Cradle Song.
But, in the remaining Lambeth writings, Blake is no longer controlled by the exigencies of lyrical form, and the first freshness of his revolutionary enthusiasm is past; hence, his energy turns to exposition or affirmation, not so much of his own faith as of the errors of the opposite party.

Described as having a "furious head" and "furious limbs," Los is the child of Enion (representing Lust) and Tharmas (representing the Body) and the father of Orc, who represents Revolution.

This kind of song was unheard of and too controversial for the modern public (at that time), but Jorge saw the hit potential and ran with it.
That song was also recorded by Ramon Ayala, who is considered by far the premier norteño artist in the history of the genre.
In Norteño/conjunto form, Los Tigres del Norte have been able to portray "real life" in a manner that most of the Americas can relate to, but also in a way most Americans are afraid to interpret through music.
