Los Straitjackets represent a return to the golden age of rock and roll.
The love and respect Los Straitjackets show for the great instrumental genres of the past -- surf rock, spy themes, novelty records, etc. -- is matched only by their unique ability to make them their own.
Los Straitjackets, and The Velvet Touch of Los Straitjackets -- the band has honed and polished its sound to blinding perfection.

Although Los Straitjackets introduced "precision synchronized choreography" to their act years ago, guitarist Danny Amis admits they're no match for the Pontani Sisters when it comes to costumes and choreography: "Their dancing is far better than ours, their choreography is much better than ours and they're better to look at."

 Morphizm.com -- Sing Along With Los Straitjackets
Los Straitjackets, for those who might not know, are a group of surf music afficionados that show up onstage wearing Mexican wrestling masks and brandish fierce instrumentals with enough hook and bite that the X-Games tabbed them for a theme tune.
And although that bite may be softer on this release, it's only because they back up far enough to let their talented vocalists share some of the spotlight, a move that pays off the majority of the tracks.
Los Straitjackets' Latino revisionist spins on these standards is just one of many twists and turns that the band has to offer, which is part and parcel of their appeal.

 Los Straitjackets - Christmas Music At Randy's Rodeo
Los Straitjackets are a crazed instrumental outfit in the energetic, early 60's tradition - except that they always perform dressed in Mexican wrestling masks.
But despite the verve and skill Los Straitjackets bring to their performance, I have to consider it a second-rank album because it's clearly a tribute to the much earlier, highly regarded Ventures' Christmas Album.
And like the Ventures, the Straitjackets toss in a couple of fun originals, "Christmas Weekend" and "Christmas In Las Vegas." In some ways, 'Tis The Season For Los Straitjackets is even better than the album on which it is modeled.

 TrouserPress.com :: Los Straitjackets
Los Straitjackets have made a cottage industry of cheeky musical commentary on the interchangeability of early rock music.
Unlike surf-revisionists Man or Astro-Man? and the Mermen, Los Straitjackets have always reveled in the genre's limitations.
All in all, the album suggests that Los Straitjackets have become more confident composers and arrangers, and less directly dependent on the same old handful of influences.

At only 34 minutes, it's a little on the short side, but there is a crisp conciseness to the tracks -- the majority of which run less than three minutes -- that harks back to the days when the perfect 45 rpm single packed in everything it needed.
It also sounds like the singers were actually in the studio with the band, rather than overdubbed later, as they seem to feed off los Straitjackets' manic energy.
A terrific concept that broadens the group's horizons while staying true to their American garage, rockabilly, and wave-riding roots, this is a most welcome addition to los Straitjackets' existing instrumental catalog, and a floorboard-shaking party disc as well.
