My mother and father were incapable of the kind of love they desired to offer us kids - I realize that now, they never saw their parents parent them.

Well, maybe not losing it, but having it stolen from me. It saddens me to see what the fanatics have turned Christianity, both the Catholic and Protestant varities, into.
A good Christian (or in my case, Catholic) was supposed to reach out and help the poor, care for the sick, and not desire a whole ton of worldly posessions, because the real rewards and riches were in Heaven.
In the world of Christ, the greatest commandment was: “Love one another as I have loved you”; (Jn 13:34), which to me means unconditionally, and irregardless of what kind of a person they may be in the eyes of society and religion.
