Losna was literally the moon itself, and the early Etruscans believed it to be a living Goddess.
Apparently Losna is the moon as a living entity, rather than a Goddess of the moon.

 St. Clair Research
Although the LOSNA family is assumed to be much older, Erlend is the first member whose first name is documented, and according to normal practice in the country at this time, no common family name was used.
Although the name of LOSNA originally was the name of a rather small island, it became descriptive of major properties belonging to the family, and located various parts of Norway, including large belongings in Bergen and surroundings, and in the county of Troms in the arctic part of Norway.
Members of the LOSNA family were also appointed judges in the High Court, or, military commanders in charge of castles and garrisons responsible for the defence of major cities such as Oslo, Bergen, or Tonsberg.

Losna is the Etruscan Goddess of the Moon, equivalent to the Roman Luna, and indeed the Etruscan and Latin words are quite alike.
The Romans in writing about it were quite clear that they believed it to be a very ancient city of the Etruscans; however in modern times no Etruscan remains have been found there, and the city and any traces of it have almost completely vanished.
Losna may be the form of Her name in the dialect of Praeneste (Latin Palestrina).

Its principal estate was the island farm of Losna, located in Sulen parish, ytre Sogn.
His descendants with his first wife, Ingeborg Erlendsdatter, formed the lågadel (landed gentry) branch of the Losna family, while the descendants from his marriage with his second wife, a daughter of Audun til Slinde and Holmfrid Erlingsdatter, were considered høgadel (high nobility).
Ingeborg Erlendsdatter appears to have been the heir to the island of Losna, which later gave its name to one of the wealthiest Norwegian noble families of the Middle Ages.
