Lost in space - The Boston Globe
Riess, an astronomer at the Space Telescope Science Institute in Baltimore, has helped spearhead ground-breaking research in recent years showing that a mysterious force called "dark energy" is rapidly pushing the universe apart.
When NASA announced in January that it would no longer use the space shuttle to service the Hubble, which means that the telescope will stop working within a couple of years, Riess was stunned.
The Space Telescope Science Institute, which handles Hubble's scientific operations, announced this month that Hubble has now viewed stars more than 13 billion light years away -- stars so distant that the light now reaching us was released within a billion years of the universe's creation.

Although it retains a cult following, the science-fiction community often points to Lost In Space as an example of TV's bad record at producing science fiction (perhaps overlooking the series' deliberate fantasy elements), comparing it to its supposed rival, Star Trek.
Ironically, Lost In Space was a modest ratings success, unlike Star Trek, which received poor ratings during its original network TV run.
As an adult he was a regular cast member in the Babylon 5 TV series, and one guest appearance on Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, a spin-off of Lost In Space's rival.

Filmtracks: Lost in Space (Bruce Broughton)
Lost in Space: (Bruce Broughton) Although the 1998 large-scale studio adaptation of Irwin Allen's famous Lost in Space tale performed considerably well at the time of its release, the film failed to become enough of a success to sustain a franchise based on the Robinson family.
The action cues are somewhat reminiscent of some of his Western cues; an adventure deep in space isn't that much different from a Western scenario, but Broughton abandons the opportunity.

Lost in Space is certainly never boring, and visually it's an occasionally awesome demonstration of special effects technology.
