Lot (Biblical) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lot accompanied Abraham in his journeys and went down to Egypt with Abraham and his family.
Lot and Abraham were both wealthy shepherds (Gen. 13:2,5), and there came a time when the land they used could not contain the flocks of both, and their herdsmen began to quarrel with each other (Gen 13:6-7).
Lot went southeast to plains near the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah, since the land there was well watered.

 CATHOLIC ENCYCLOPEDIA: Lot
Lot interceded in behalf of his guests in accordance with his duties as host, which are most sacred in the East, but made the mistake of placing them above his duties as a father by offering his two daughters to the wicked designs of the Sodomites (6-8).
The angels then made known to Lot the object of their visit to Sodom, which they were sent to destroy, and advised him to leave the city at once with his family and belongings.
Lot's wife, disregarding the injunction of the angels, looked back, and was converted into a pillar of salt (24-26).

Parking lot - Encyclopedia.WorldSearch   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-21)
While parking lots have traditionally been an overlooked element of development projects by governmental oversight, the recent trend has been to provide regulations for the configuration and spacing of parking lots, their landscaping, and drainage and pollution abatement issues.
Therefore, an important second function of the retention basin for parking lots is to act as a temporary storage impoundment to allow particulate materials to settle out and to slow or even prevent the release of other pollutants into waterways.
Many municipalities also have established minimum spacing standards for parking lots, the standards depending on whether the parking is parallel, pull-in, or diagonal, and depending on what types of vehicles are allowed to park in the lot or a particular section of it.

Lot (1) - International Standard Bible Encyclopedia
The man who bore the name Lot (lot; Lot) is mentioned for the first time in Genesis 11:27, at the beginning of that section of Genesis which is entitled "the generations of Terah." After Terah's 3 sons are named, it is added that the third of these, Haran, begat Lot.
In Genesis 14:14,16 Lot is termed the "brother" of Abraham; but that this does not represent a variant tradition is proved by reference to 14:12 of the same chapter (ascribed to "an independent source") and to 13:8 (ascribed to J; compare 11:28 J).
The language of 2 Peter 2:7,8 reminds us that Lot was, even at this time of his life, a "righteous" man. Viewed as a part of his environment (the writer has been speaking of Sodom, 19:6), Lot was certainly entitled to be called a "righteous" man, and the term fits the implications of Genesis 18:23-32.

In phrases such as a lot of strawberries, the word lot is not really a head noun analogous to the word bowl in a bowl of strawberries.
Rather, expressions like a lot of, a whole lot of, and a great deal of are best thought of as complex modifiers analogous to words like many, much, or several.
A lot and some of its cousin phrases are also used as adverbs meaning “much” or “very much”: I’m feeling a whole lot (or lots or a great deal) better.
