 HISTORY OF LOTUS
Lotus is credited with establishing the mid-engine configuration as the best design for formula 1 and Indy cars, with developing the first monocoque Formula 1 chassis, and the integration of the engine and transaxle as chassis components.
Lotus also was first with adding wings to Formula 1 cars to add downforce, as well as moving radiators to the sides in F1 cars to aid in aerodynamic performance, and inventing active suspension.

Lotus 25 was designed by Colin Chapman for the 1962 Formula 1 season.
Those teams, including Rob Walker Racing were given Lotus 24 cars, while the works team had exclusive use of the 25 for Jim Clark and Trevor Taylor.
At the final race in Mexico, just as in 1962 the Climax engine developed an oil leak and with literally a lap to run Clark coasted to a halt in sight of world championship victory, this time conceding to John Surtees.

 1961 Lotus 20/22 Formula Junior - Motorbase
This Lotus 20 Formula Junior came to the USA from New Zealand in 1990, traded against a Le Grand Formula 5000 car, since when it has been raced in US historic races from coast to coast, all events being recorded and all owners known and documented.
The Lotus is in good condition: the 1,100cc engine was freshened in 2006 and has a super starter fitted, while the Hewland Mk6 gearbox was last rebuilt by Hewland specialists Taylor Engineering.
The disc brakes are the correct Lotus 22 updates, the rears being inboard as originally configured by Lotus.

Second was Don Bennett in a Lotus S7, and third was Hong Kong's Albert Poon, on the first of many visits to the Macau Grand Prix rostrum.
His Lotus also became the fastest car ever on the Guia circuit when it hit a top speed of 73.38 mph mid-way through the race.
The race was not stopped, although Teddy Yip withdrew his entry in sympathy, and was eventually won by Tony Maw of Malaysia in a Lotus 20B.

After three laps Clark's Lotus was only 1.5 seconds in front of the BRM, and the two Scotsmen flashed over the finish line almost side by side with the Lotus just holding first position.
There was more drama when Clark spun the Lotus on a patch of oil in The Loop.
He got the car back on the circuit a few laps later but toured around to the pits to retire with radiator damage.

The Lotus 20B Formula Junior – Chassis No. 20JB53 – was delivered new to Mike Costin of Cosworth fame who used it as an experimental car for various engine configurations.
For the first year, the car was driven for Costin by one Brian Hart, later to become famous for his engine building exploits.
At this stage the car was racing dressed in a very interesting bright orange colour and was certainly not easy to miss.
