In Greek mythology, the Lotophagi ("lotus-eaters") were a race of people from an island near Northern Africa dominated by lotus plants.
The lotus fruits and flowers were the primary foodstuff of the island and were narcotic, causing the people to sleep in peaceful apathy.
Recent studies have shown that the Blue Lilly of the Nile Nymphaea caerulea, sometimes Blue Lotus was possibly the plant used.

Lotus Eaters is a sophomore honorary whose goal is to provide special recognition to sophomores with a GPA of 3.3 or higher who make outstanding contributions to the Vanderbilt community as well as address similar student concerns regarding scholarship, campus involvement, community service, and leadership.
The Lotus Eaters calendar for 1998-1999 includes GED Tutoring throughout the entire year, the faculty-student luncheon with the Athenians in the middle of the fall semester, exam-o-grams as a fundraiser in December, and the faculty auction in April.
Though the schedule for the year is extremely busy, Lotus Eaters is committed to GED tutoring for Vanderbilt employees and is also involved with Pencil Project by tutoring at a local middle school.

A waitress from the bar came and asked if we would be ordering drinks....I suggested to my date that we order "The Lotus Eaters Special Cocktail"...and after describing the exoctic fruits and liquors that went into it, she agreed.The drinks came, not with the typical straw umbrella, but garnished with a Lotus Flower!
One of my favorite places to bring a date was to a place called "The Lotus Eaters".
