  Lotus Elise - Wikicars
The Lotus Elise is a roadster conceived in early 1994 and released in September 1995 by the English manufacturer Lotus Cars.
The 2005 Lotus Elise was the first to be sold commercially in the United States, in the summer of 2004.
The next-generation Elise, due in 2007, will be required to comply with the rules unless Lotus gets an exemption extension, like it did on multiple occasions with its previous USA distributed car, the Esprit.

Lotus says 0-to-60-mph times in the sub-5-second range are achievable, but we couldn't get any better than a 5.6-second sprint, and the quarter-mile was run in 13.9 seconds at 100.19 mph, well off what we think a healthy car could run.
Another way to personalize the Elise is with the Premium Pack ($695), which requires purchase of the Touring Pack and includes a leather shift knob (what, lose that marvelous aluminum knob?) and handbrake gaiter, stowage tray pad and divider, upgraded Alpine stereo and an extruded aluminum cupholder.

The Elise redefines the sports car genre by blending the traditional Lotus values of light weight and superlative handling, with innovative engineering and a generous helping of fun.
At the heart of the Elise design is an exceptionally light, but enormously strong spaceframe chassis, constructed from extruded anodised aluminium components and bonded together with a special epoxy adhesive, a first for a production road car.
