Whitaker was a second baseman for the Detroit Tigers from 1977-1995.
Whitaker enjoyed what was perhaps his best season in 1983, hitting for a.320 average with 12 home runs, 72 runs batted in, and 94 runs.
In 1985 Whitaker set a record for Detroit second basemen with 21 home runs and in 1986 was a member of a Tigers infield in which every member hit at least twenty home runs.

Whitaker will have a harder time because there's a pretty big cluster of potentially HOF-quality 2b on the outside looking in (Frank White, Joe Gordon, Buddy Myer, Bobby Grich, possibly Sandberg, possibly Biggio) which he's going to get caught up in.
Trammell to Whitaker might've been the best modern DP combo, especially due to their time together allowing them to be such a great combo.
Whitaker was a better player, but Trammell was quite above average in his own right, and more then competent defensively.
