The Loughborough Echo is the only paid-for local newspaper based in the town of Loughborough in Leicestershire, England and serving the town and the surrounding area.
The newspaper is well known for its lively letter columns in which contributors debate such items of local interest as the controversial introduction of "wheelie bins" into the Charnwood Borough Council area, and the continuing expansion of Loughborough University.
The Echo has a website at www.icloughborough.co.uk which is updated with a selection of news, leisure and sport every week.

In November 2002, a house in Havelock Street in Loughborough was turned into a chamber of horrors, where a boy was beaten, tortured and eventually cut into pieces with a saw.
John Brindley, news editor of the Loughborough Echo, said the town was stunned when the news emerged about the "body parts" murder.
"We regard Loughborough as a very ordinary and prosperous town and the brutality of what was involved took everyone completely by surprise - we were completely off guard," he said.

From the issue of 27 November the Theatre Royal was under the ‘Loughborough Amusements’ banner in the local newspapers, a block of four formed by the Empire, Victory, Premier and Theatre Royal.

The most impressive display of musicianship anywhere in Loughborough this year, possibly for many years, happened in Emmanuel Church during the second concert of the Charnwood Orchestra's 30th anniversary season.
Loughborough Building Society, the sponsors, were surely well pleased.
Brief and modest it may be, short winded even, (Mozart was only twelve), but it found the orchestra right on their toes for the start of their 31st season.

The remainder come from a series of over 1,200 of his sketches published in the Loughborough Echo between 1950 and 1974 under the title “From an Artist’s Sketchbook”.
I have spent many hours in Loughborough library searching through back copies of the Loughborough Echo on microfilm, and have found the articles which accompanied a few of the pictures in my possession, although much work still remains to be done in this respect.

Filming took place at Loughborough station earlier in the week - the station will appear as Bletchley, Rugby and Glasgow in the movie.
Quorn station (playing Bletchley) was used throughout 7th June and it was on this day we joined in the action on set, in the midst of the stars, the many local extras and the film crew.
Around 80 extras were on set - all local people who had replied to an advertisement in the Loughborough Echo, which attracted over 1,000 responses.

Stan was a Special Constable in the village for 16 years and was presented with a long service award for his contribution; Quorn correspondent to the Loughborough Echo and Parish Councillor and Chairman from 1983 to1991.
Then after meeting friends who had similar interests in engines, this interest progressed and along came 'Jessica', a Ruston & Hornby stationery engine, which Stan salvaged from a Loughborough allotment and spend many hours and months renovating until it was in prestige show condition.
He was then introduced to the National Vintage Tractor and Engine Club, and was the Secretary of Midlands Section until recently resigning his position, due ill health.

 Big Cat - Panther Spotted in Quorn
Sightings of the Quorn panther have reached an all-time high after the big cat was featured in last week's Echo.
I saw In the Echo that people had seen something that looked like a panther in Quorn.
As the cat was gazing at the gardener in his allotment I continued over the bridge and turned left to go into the allotments to alert the gardeners but, having second thoughts, I decided to leave well alone.
