From Loughgall's point of view, it was a marked improvement from the 3-0 defeat sustained by Newry City the week before and this bodes well for the forthcoming festive fixtures.
Loughgall started the game in a positive manner and as early as the third minute Clifford Sterritt had an effort cleared while two minutes later Johnny Topley also had a chance that was scrambled away for a corner.
The Loughgall boss was also impressed with the three players he brought into the team, but stressed that, overall, he was happy with all his players.

For though it was clear that the IRA had planned to blow up the police station and to kill whomever was in it, that they had, in fact, come to Loughgall with murder on their minds, it was also clear that the decision to kill them had been made prior to the stake-out itself.
Nationalist condemnation of the IRA's intentions quickly became tempered with a largely unarticulated anger at the British government for what appeared to be a cold-blooded decision simply to get the IRA operatives, and with the IRA for once again forcing constitutional nationalism to face the demons of its own contradictions.
There was, of course, the inevitable historical analogue that would give Loughgall its rightful place in the hierarchy of atrocities committed against Republicans: Clonmult in County Cork, 20 February 1920.

At a conference organised by `Relatives for Justice' in Dungannon in April 1991, families criticised the delay in holding inquests and highlighted the restrictions imposed on coroners' courts (legislation was introduced in 1980 to curtail the remit of coroners' courts in the Six counties).
Describing the Loughgall ambush as ``one of the most serious incidents involving the security forces over the last twenty five years,'' he said: ``Obviously it is a matter of the utmost concern which requires independent and impartial investigation.

City weren't given as many clear opportunities during the second half and their chances appeared to be slipping away as they were often guilty of attempting too many passes before having a shot.
Loughgall had cleared the ball from yet another City attack and as they chased the ball down City's left flank, Armagh's Fairclough chose to pass the ball back to Paul Rice rather than put the ball out.

Loughgall refused to cave in, however, and produced a spirited performance that, with better finishing, may have seen them take something from the match.
He was quick to pounce when the lanky centre half, Harbinson, dwelt on the ball on the edge of his own penalty area, allowing O'Boyle to steal the ball and, though Robinson did well to save his first shot, the striker kept his cool and rammed home the loose ball from close range.
Even at 3-0 down, Loughgall refused to throw in the towel and Coulter again came close to a goal when he just failed to get enough of a touch on a low cross and had to watch the ball slide just wide of the post.
