	K-State mathematician receives grant to study gravity, black holes and possible future space travel
		Louis Crane, professor of mathematics at K-State, will use a $135,247 grant from The Foundational Questions Institute to complete an interpretation he helped create of a model for quantum gravity, the BC model.
		Crane said his interpretation would be applied to small fl holes to see how their formation, radiation and interaction with matter differs from the semiclassical predictions.
		Crane also wants to take his research one more step: to see how it might be used for possible interstellar space travel in the future.

	Descendants of Henry Crane
		He was joint owner with Henry Crane of an acre plot of land on the "Meetinghouse Hill" which was purchased by the town at a meeting held Oct. 23, 1699, for the purpose of remaining to the common forever.
		Henry Crane is next chosen Lieutenant of Killingworth train-band, in 1676; the time he went to Killingworth, is uncertain as we find the name at Killingworth in the first land division, (Henry Cranne, No. 21,) which from the dates appears as early as 1663-4, entered as one of the planters of Kenilworth.
		Henry Crane was one of the assistants in the upper house of the General Court, Oct. 12, 1665 and in May 1666.

		Anthologist and poet Louis Untermeyer was born October 1, 1885, in New York City.
		Louis Untermeyer was most noted for the anthologies of poetry which he compiled and edited.
		For example, the only letter from Louis Golding to Untermeyer consists of a four-page autobiographical monologue, which includes a lengthy discussion of his experiences in World War I. Hart Crane's two-page letter to Untermeyer contrasts in detail his poetry with the poetry of T.S. Eliot.

		Louis Crane has been doing a lot of excellent work on topological quantum field theory for the last few years, strongly advocating the use of category theory as a unifying principle in physics (essentially as an extension of the concept of symmetry embodied in group theory), but this is quite different in flavor.
		Indeed, Crane calls his hypothesis the "meduso-anthropic hypothesis," after certain jellyfish with a two-stage life cycle in which medusids produce polyps and vice versa.
		This has the charm of completely destroying the usual approach (dare I say "paradigm"?) of physics in which the parameters of the universe are regarded as indifferent to the existence of intelligence.
