Louis McManus passed away on Sunday morning at the age of 48.
I know Louis' cousin Mairead McManus a truly amazing flute player from Glasgow, she told me about him and it sounds to me he will be a great loss to the world of music god rest his soul.
Louis' dance music was inspirational and many thousands of Australians will never forget those exciting times.

Louis was playing the part of a blind fiddler and along with Christy Cooney and John Armstrong, they delighted and amazed the cast and crew with their flying jigs and reels.
Louis had already primed everyone at the school that Knackers was going to make a guest appearance that night and there was a real buzz of excitement and anticipation in the hall.
Louis did it with tremendous surety of attack and mastery of tone, though few except his fellow musicians seemed to appreciate just what they were hearing.

Louis is mourned by his wife, Maxine Briggs McManus, his parents, Louis Snr and Norah McManus, his sister Noreen and his brother Antony, and his numerous friends, colleagues and admirers.
Louis was a supremely gifted musician - one of the world's most brilliant players of the mandolin, tenor banjo and acoustic guitar.
Louis McManus is, in my view, one of the great musicians alive today....

Louis McManus died on 12 December 2004, aged 48, but had been unable to work as a professional musician since 1997 when he was hit with the first of four debilitating strokes.
Louis never got round to making an album under his own name, he played on plenty, but while much discussed and planned, he fell victim to stroke before he could actually record it.
All who heard Louis play will never forget his complete mastery of his instruments and the genius of his music, some of which can be heard on the independent compilation CD 'with a heart and a hand' complete with wonderful cover art work supplied by his long time friend Reg Mombassa.

As McManus remembered the play, McShayne's socially ambitious wife and daughter were ashamed of his uninhibited naturalness and couldn't abide his old pals, which forced McShayne to sneak out whenever he wanted to meet the boys for a game of poker.
McManus has said that the reason he decided to use the dish was because the poor Irish families always had it for Sunday dinner when he was a boy growing up in St. Louis.

Virginia was born September 21, 1918, the third child of Luther Edmund Reaves and Nellie Beatrice McManus in Covington, Tipton Co, TN.
Her birth certificate mistakenly lists her parents' birthplaces as Mississippi.  Her mother was from Tennessee and her father said he was from Oklahoma.  A fire in the courthouse destroyed the records and so a remake was needed, someone messed up.
Virginia died peacefully on 14 Oct 2002 at the home of her son.  She was buried 18 Oct 2002 in Garden of the Christus, Mount Hope Cemetery, St. Louis, next to Joseph, next to her infant grandson Sean, and two spaces from her father.

My brother Louis learned the fiddle in his late 20's; though never a Michael Coleman, his influence encouraged his son Louis Jnr to become an exceptional fiddle, mandolin, banjo and bouzouki player.
Louis' family emigrated to Australia in 1962 when Louis Jnr was 6 years old.
