Louis Wu - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Wu, born in the year 2650, celebrated his 200th birthday by working his way from party to party around the world using transfer booths to stay ahead of the dateline.
Louis then returns to the Ringworld looking for matter conversion technology for another Pierson's Puppeteer named "Hindmost" and while there discovers that the Ringworld is unstable.
Louis Wu also appears in the short story There Is A Tide, where he becomes the first human to make contact with the Trinoc species.

The accentuated hyper-intelligence of the Protector is not much in evidence, nor does Louis seem to experience any profound emotions regarding his unexpected transformation.
And while some fans might have found that comforting, I found it to be not very consistent, given the fact that Niven has spent most of his professional career hyping the Protector and how transforming into a Protector drastically alters the mind (and body) of a normal human being.
