The whole crowd was extremely excited to see this home-town band (complete with their British accents) take the stage to sing their innuendo filled songs about girls, girls and more girls.
Although to give Louis the benefit of the doubt, their 70s glam-rock T-Rex sound might not translate on a large outdoor stage.
I think that it is also difficult for a band with one record to play an hour long set that is captivating because at least 1/4 of the set is material that's not on the record.

By plucking phrases from the zeitgeist almost as soon as they've entered our collective consciousness (examples "I'm a weapon of mass destruction..." "I'm gonna swipe your identity") Louis XIV are perhaps trying a little too hard to be current.
Louis XIV have succeeded in producing 4 tracks that, in amongst the noise of all the artrockers, post-punkers and new/no wavers, are vital enough to grab your attention.
There are some touches of the more interesting US indie pop bands around at the moment - Modest Mouse and Pinback - in that Another Story's songs subtly twist around the main melody and don't just follow the path of least resistance.

Saw San Diego buzz band Louis XIV at Black Cat a couple weeks ago and they played your basic dirt-bar rock for maybe an hour.
Their material is pretty mundane, derivative, whatever, but they managed to entertain nonetheless by keeping it quick, wearing mascara and using faux-brit accents.

Clearly, the first piece of Louis XIV that you notice is the lyrics; overtly sexual, dirty, and over the top.
Musically, Louis XIV is the closest thing to a second coming of the brilliant Libertines that I've heard.
