I've read a lot of Louise Simonson's work and find her to be one of the best in the business.
Simonson obviously is well aware of the tremendous backstory to not just her protagonist, Wonder Woman, but also of Jack Kirby's New Gods/Darkseid/Apokolips franchise.
Simonson manage to stay true to the Justice League cartoon characterizations, but she set the stage for a very compelling adventure that honestly made you want to read more.

Quilligan's Quarter - Simonson and Liefeld's New Mutants   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
Simonson had been writing X-Factor as well, and she brought with her to New Mutants members of the X-Terminators, a similar team of young mutants from X-Factor who were being trained by the original X-Men.
It's worth mentioning that while this second issue was plotted by Louise Simonson, the dialogue was provided by Fabian Nicieza, who eventually is Simonson's replacement.
What's most interesting to me about this training sequence is that more than in Simonson's regular issues, Cable is shown as a hard-nosed taskmaster, and Wolfsbane (and by implication, the rest of the team) is shown as hanging on his every command.

 Reference.com/Encyclopedia/Louise Simonson
In 1971 Simonson (then Louise Jones) modelled for artist Berni Wrightson's cover of DC Comics House of Secrets #92 (June-July, 1971), a comic which later became famous as the first appearance of Swamp Thing.
Simonson (as Louise Jones) had edited another X-Men spin-off, The New Mutants (1st series), at its debut in 1983 (after leaving the book, she would have a "cameo" in New Mutants #21, drawn in as a slumber party guest by artist Bill Sienkiewicz
She, artist Jon Bogdanove, and editor Mike Carlin launched a new Superman title, _The_Man_of_Steel — a title she would write for eight years until #86 in 1999.

Amazon.com: Superman: Doomsday and Beyond: Books: Louise Simonson   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-12)
Simonson tries to adapt 40 issues of comic book material in too short a space.
However, 9 of those pages are used to give a skimpy, chopped-up novelization of the 6-issue "Man of Steel" miniseries that gave us Superman's definitive (until "Birthright") origin in 1986, 10 of those pages go to fl-and-white reproductions of artwork from the comic books, and 6 of those pages are completely blank.
That means that Simonson tried to adapt, I believe, 880 pages of comic books into 165 pages of prose.

Louise Simonson Gets Go-Ahead At Devourer Sequel
According to Galactus: The Devourer writer, Louise Simonson, she has gotten the go-ahead to write the second mini-series of her Silver Surfer/Galactus story started in Galactus: The Devourer.
Simonson’s series should free up the Silver Surfer for more cosmic interaction and give Kurt Buseik’s series more cosmic implications.
No signs as to how long it could take before a new series is completed, or what the titles and art teams will be for the two events, but Simonson says this is certainly good news for fans of her current mini-series.
