Lounge music - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Notionally, much lounge music consists of sentimental favorites enjoyed by a lone drinker over a martini, though in practice there is much more variety.
Patrons of the lounge have been known to request the performers to play music which the performers are ill-equipped musically to play.
Lounge music has enjoyed brief resurgences in popularity in the 1980s and 1990s, led by deliberately ironic figures such as Buster Poindexter and Jaymz Bee.

 The Funk Files: Lounge singer
Extremely selective in his play dates, the reclusive Lounge became an overnight hit after his intense performance in April at the Jazz and Heritage Festival in New Orleans.
A relative unknown to many in the audience, Lounge's grand entrance consisted of being pushed onto the stage in an old gymnasium-style steam cabinet that he calls his iron lung.
Lounge did appear June 25 at the Louisiana Music Factory and reportedly is in negotiation for several major performances in the future.

 Lounge Music History
Lounge (easy listening) refers to a strain of easy listening music from the '50s and '60s that was based on the lush styles of latter-day swing and big band music.
Lounge scaled these back, borrowing ideas from the worldbeat exploration of exotica, as well as the futuristic aspirations of space age pop.
Often the names lounge music or chill out are used to refer to songs demonstrative of the genre, but those names also refer to other styles of music, and downtempo encompasses a wider variety of styles than those terms alone would indicate.

I think Bob sleeping with the singer was just show that he wasn't, well, a dirty old man. He wasn't seeing Charlotte just because he hoped to get her in bed.
As a result, his betrayal of his wife with the lounge singer was as much as anything an attempt to put Charlotte at arm's length by angering her.

As three men in shiny purple suits made an Elvis-like entrance after they were introduced, all I could think of was that opening scene in Sister Act.
The band was a machine, playing only a major portion of a song before deftly moving into the next one.
A highlight of the show was when BRW took the music down a notch for an acappella cover of "What A Wonderful World." Since the song had so much space for vocals, the singer added improvised feelings.

Whether this conversation was followed by a three-minute movie makeover montage and if she whipped off her glasses and won the heart of the most popular boy in high school, I do not know.
Winnie and Uscher manage that mood in their performances, suspending reality and replacing it with, as the singer of "Corcovado" famously finds himself forever locked in, a room with a stunning but unreachable view.

The story of lounge singer and pianist Monty Banks is fascinating, but has more twists and turns than a Hitchcock thriller.
He's a lounge performer in the classic Vegas style; his repertoire draws on the same songs that Mel Torme, Nat King Cole and Louis Armstrong sang to dark, smoky jazz clubs and showrooms.
Whether playing solo or with a big band, he embodies everything you imagine when you think of lounge style: the bawdy jokes, the smooth patter, the heartfelt renditions of songs written to be sung by Sinatra and his contemporaries.

 Mel Torme
el Torme was among the most enduring singers from the big-band era, maligned by some as the epitome of lounge singer, acclaimed by many more as one of a talented and serious vocalist.
His first fame coincided with Frank Sinatra's, and the two appeared together in their first film, "Higher and Higher." He wanted to be a jazz singer, "but I got sidetracked," he said.
He recorded tunes such as "Homeward Bound," "Red Rubber Ball," and "Raindrops are Falling on My Head" in the late 1960s that either leave you in awe of his range and flexibility or cringing at his attempt to bridge a generation gap.
