  LOVE... the band
Everything the band did in this period was a blend of elements that worked in ways that added up to more that their parts.
It seems odd that Love went further and further from anything resembling blues-rock after their first album, and the Doors came out with a stunningly peculiar first album, then grew into bloated blues-rock as they got older.
The song that fascinated me with Love in the first place is still my favorite, as it's one of the closest things I have heard by anyone to some confused chemical messianic vision.

Love (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Love was an American rock group of the late 1960s and early 1970s.
The band's critical reputation far exceeds the limited success they experienced: their 1967 album Forever Changes is consistently cited by critics as one of the outstanding albums in the history of rock music.
The new version of Love, which included Jay Donnellan and Gary Rowles on guitars, Frank Fayad on bass, and George Suranovich on drums as well as Lee, played in a style very different to the "classic" lineup of the band and their three albums are not regarded with the same affection.

Love and Rockets (band) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Love and Rockets were formed in 1985 by Bauhaus alumni Daniel Ash (guitars, saxophone, and vocals), David J (bass and vocals) and Kevin Haskins (drums, synthesizers) after Peter Murphy was not interested in reforming Bauhaus.
The result was a move to a much more electronic sound that had more in common with the Orb than their rock or goth roots.
The band's name was derived from the comic by Jaime and Gilbert Hernandez, which Gilbert later mocked in his book Love and Rockets X, where there were several different bands named "Love and Rockets" for a period.

Love: Forever Changes ---Ink Blot Magazine
Arthure Lee formed Love amidst a flourishing L.A. rock scene that had already produced The Byrds; while that band's folk-rock clearly influenced Love, their early work also incorporated the rough-and-ready sound of '60s garage psych later made infamous by Lenny Kaye's Nuggets comps.
The band was already notorious: their refusal to tour, Lee's herculean drug intake, and their fragile interpersonal chemistry made them unlikely targets for longevity from the start.
His excellent band, Love, was in tatters, with none of the members even willing to learn their parts; his already sensitive soul was overburdened with misery and drugs; and the hippie dream had imploded in LA's summer heat.
