LMHR organisers releases a statement after The Libertines cancellation saying, “We sincerely apologise for any arrangements anyone has already made in respect of Sunday 6 June and any inconvenience this reluctant cancellation may cause.”
The gig, set to feature acts spanning a wide range of musical genres, was moved last week from Finsbury Park to the Hammersmith Apollo, before being finally cancelled yesterday (June 2).

I mean because their punk-fuelled power-pop is a worthy successor to the late 70’s bands that supported the Rock Against Racism gigs 25 years ago, which Love Music Hate Racism is itself a successor to.
The set closes with a terrific take of ‘The Good Old Days’, with its lyric “If you’ve lost your faith in love and music then the end won’t be long” (a personal fave) sounds just right on a night when love and music are combined to hate racism.
Harking back to 70s’ Rock Against Racism gigs (in which The Buzzcocks took part) it’s only right they should be at tonight’s worthy re-enactment, and I make no apology for viewing their set through misty eyes and rose-coloured specs.

'''Rock Against Racism''' was a music festival event organized in 1976 by the Anti-Nazi League to fight the growing wave of racist attacks in the UK (possibly associated with the National Front and rhetoric of Enoch Powell), and encouraged by musicians David Bowie and Eric Clapton.
Over 100,000 people marched six miles from Trafalgar Square to the East End of London (a National Front "hotspot") for an open-air gig featuring The Clash (as seen in the film Rude Boy), The Buzzcocks, Steel Pulse, X-Ray Spex and The Tom Robinson Band.
It has recently been reborn as Love Music Hate Racism with a gig at The Astoria in London, featuring Mick Jones, The Buzzcocks, and The Libertines.

The free afternoon event was organised by LMHR to help mobilise support for UAF's campaign to stop the BNP winning back what was their only London council seat in neighbouring Goresbrook, Barking.
The event attracted an overwhelmingly young, local audience, which showed the diversity and unity of ordinary people in the area, which the BNP are looking to smash.
