		Forget the MOR laziness of Brothers in Arms, Love Over Gold was Dire Straits finest hour, with Mark Knopfler reaching a standard of song writing that he would never repeat.
		I return to Love Over Gold from time to time and rediscover it all over again, and it is never anything less than a pleasure.

		Over a discreet synthesizer ring, gurgling marimba and a delicately plucked acoustic guitar, he grumbles into his whiskey glass like Bob Dylan in a trench coat: "You get to meet all sorts in this line of work Treachery and treason There's always an excuse for it," he recites in a raspy nicotine snarl.
		"Love Over Gold" is a whispery ballad that plays the jazzy tingle of vibes against an almost classical piano air and the violinlike pluck of a synthesizer to heighten its images of a casual, even cavalier, sex life.

	Love Over Gold
		"Love Over Gold", the fourth album by Dire Straits, was released in September, 1982, and was the group's first to top the British chart, holding the Number One position for a month.
		Over four years had passed since that debut, and the group had lost a founder member, guitarist David Knopfler, and gained a replacement, Hal Lindes, as well as expanding into a quintet with the addition of Alan Clark on keyboards.
		Although there are only five tracks on "Love Over Gold", all written by Mark Knopfler, the album runs for over 40 minutes.
