  Sade: Lovers Rock (2000): Reviews
Lovers' Rock ranks among the finest albums of the year, as Sade, nimbly utilizing that distinctively smoky, vulnerable instrument that is her voice, weaves gentle yet insinuating odes to love and loss.
While Lovers Rock is not any sort of departure from the quiet ballads that marked the group's first three albums, there is an element of freshness that aligns Sade with the current electronic music insurgence while still maintaining a distinctly analog outlook on love's foibles.
Lovers Rock is her first in eight years, and guess what -- it sounds exactly like Sade, heavily influenced by Diamond Life with a bit of Love Deluxe thrown in.

 Sade: Lovers Live
Lovers Rock CD, and 2001 was even more exciting with her band's first North American tour in almost a decade.
Lovers Rock songs do tend to standout against the lovestruck classics as being thematically more involved with social commentary or motherly concerns, and I'm happy to report all of them sound a lot fuller and more dynamic live, as they're worked over with the extended band and more singers to boost the arrangements.
Lovers Live comes with a pleasant enough little booklet, listing all the tour gigs, personnel and credits, and is brightened by quite a few colour pix grabbed from the film that was shot for the aforementioned DVD - - a nice example of a little cross marketing and but tastefully done.

Softly crooning lyrics that treat romantic disappointment and racial injustice with equal restraint, Anglo-Nigernian superstar Sade takes her her sensitive-yet-serene persona to new extremes on "Lovers Rock." Her first album in eight years, the 11-track LP sounds closer to Enya than to Erykah Badu.
The closest the singer or her band come to breaking a sweat is when a gentle hip-hop beat intrudes on the multi-tracked vocals of the hypnotic "Flow." Elsewhere, dub and, of course, lover's rock accents color the acoustic guitars and low-key basslines that make up the substance of almost every track.
One thing's certain, though: "Lovers Rock" is the most sedate unit-shifter since those Gregorian monks hit the Billboard charts.
