Lower Alabama - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Lower Alabama is a term used to describe various parts of southern Alabama.
Because Mobile and Baldwin Counties tend to use South Alabama with exclusivity, a second and more appropriate use of "Lower Alabama" is to refer to the other parts of southern Alabama, including the Florida-border counties from Escambia County over to Houston County.
Finally, Lower Alabama is also a slang term used by some Floridians to refer to the part of Florida directly south of Alabama, especially the area around Pensacola, and eastward to Destin and Panama City.

 [No title]
Although unrestricted commercial harvesting of the Alabama sturgeon may have significantly reduced its numbers and initiated a population decline, the present curtailment of the Alabama sturgeon's range is the result of 100 years of cumulative impacts to the rivers of the Mobile River Basin (Basin) as they were developed for navigation.
Alabama sturgeon habitat requirements are not met in impoundments, where weak flows result in accumulations of silt making bottom habitats unsuitable for spawning and, perhaps, for the bottom- dwelling invertebrates on which the sturgeon feed.
For example, one of the Alabama sturgeons caught in 1995 was hooked by a fisherman on a trot line, and the Alabama sturgeon caught in 1996 was trapped in a hoop net; both of these fish were released.

The Alabama Coast consists of two distinct areas split by Mobile Bay: on the west side of the bay, the only surf spots lie on a narrow 15-mile isle known as Dauphin Island.
Most of Alabama's good surfers travel frequently -- in some cases, permanently -- and as you could guess from this area's stunning combo of wave selection and local population, talent levels are about on par with the surf itself.
But while Alabama may lack that pack mentality that plagues world-class breaks, hostility can still be a problem, especially when facing property owners and police over the issue of parking.

 About the Alabama River Watershed
The Alabama River is formed by the confluence of the Coosa and Tallapoosa Rivers just 15 miles north of Montgomery.
Whereas the lower portions of Alabama's major tributaries, the Coosa and Tallapoosa fell rapidly over dramatic falls and shoals, the Alabama basin lies almost entirely within the rather flat topography of the coastal plain.
The Alabama serves as the unifier of Alabama’s Eastern Rivers, the Coosa and Tallapoosa and her western rivers, the Cahaba, Black Warrior and Tombigbee.
