Lower Merion Township imposes a business privilege tax (“BPT”) and a mercantile tax  (“MT”) on both resident and non-resident businesses, the exact application depending on a series of qualifications and exclusions relating to such considerations as (but not limited to) the type of business, domicile, and taxes paid to other jurisdictions.
According to DCED, seven municipalities in Montgomery County levy both BPT/MT and the EIT/NPT (Cheltenham Township, East Norriton Township, Lower Gwynedd Township, Borough of Rockledge, Borough of Conshohocken, Plymouth Township and Borough of Norristown).

Edward J. Brandt, chairman of the board of supervisors for Lower Gwynedd Township, Montgomery County, was presented with the Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors’ 15th Annual President’s Leadership Award at the association’s annual convention in Hershey in April in recognition of his dedication to and involvement in township government.
Township supervisors, secretaries, and managers who held office in 2003 were eligible for the honor.
The Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors represents Pennsylvania’s 1,456 townships of the second class and for the past 83 years has been committed to preserving and strengthening township government and securing greater visibility and involvement for townships in the state and federal political arenas.

Their son, Algernon S. Jenkins (Howard’s father) was born in Gwynedd had a farm nearby and died there in 1890 (in a fall in his barn).

For the second time in two months, the Lower Gwynedd township meeting room was flooded Jan. 18 with residents opposing the proposed plan to erect a CVS pharmacy in the quaint Springhouse Village Center.
During the public comment section, however, many residents concerned about the adverse impacts the plan would have on the township if it were eventually approved, made their voices heard.
As much as the supervisors said they were in the business of listening to what their constituents have to say, township Solicitor Jim Garrity pointed out that the board still has to adhere to the law with regard to its decisions rendered.
