For a functional limb length discrepency, related to abnormal pronation of the foot, a functional orthotic device to correct the pronatory motion may be sufficient.
For example, pronation of the long limb is common, thus correcting the pronation of the long limb may exacerbate the problem, as supination increases the leg length (unpublished).
