		Loweswater is a small lake and the village of Loweswater lies at the foot of the lake.
		Loweswater is perhaps one of the nicest and attractive Lakes in the Lake District as the vale of Lorton in which it is situated is still a very peaceful place and relatively un- commercialised with few tourists.
		To the south of Loweswater is a group of fells known as Loweswater Fells and consists of Blake Fell, Burnbank fell, Gravel Fell, Mellbreak and Hen Comb.

		The first mention of a place of worship at Loweswater occurs in 1125 in the records of St Bees Priory, where it is stated "Randulphus de Lindsey gave the chapel and two bovates of land to our mother church".
		The alterations and enlargement were effected in anticipation of a large increase in the congregation size resulting from the discovery of a lead vein running through the valley.
		A lead mine was opened at Godferhead and the inhabitants of Loweswater and the surrounding area invested a large sum of money in the project, in the hope of a dramatic increase in the population and congregations.

		Loweswater is one of the lesser known, but least spoilt villages in the English lake district.
