Lowndes County is a county located in the state of Georgia.
The county is a major commercial, educational, and manufacturing center of south Georgia with considerable forest products including pulpwood and naval stores, such as turpentine and rosin.
In the county the population is spread out with 26.20% under the age of 18, 15.10% from 18 to 24, 31.30% from 25 to 44, 18.50% from 45 to 64, and 9.00% who are 65 years of age or older.

For decades, Lowndes County has had the foresight to work with the military in keeping development from encroaching on Moody Air Force Base’s flight paths and base perimeter.
With the County currently working on its new comprehensive development plan, including zoning and other issues, it is heartening to hear that the commissioners are considering even stricter guidelines for the Moody Activity Zone surrounding the base.
Lowndes is fortunate to have a legacy of military support, which is now paying off for the community as the base stands to gain jobs while refocusing its mission.
