The islands are well populated, and several villages are along the northeast coast of Lubang, as on the south of Cabra (abandoned since several years) and also a village on Golo Island.
In the heavy woods of Lubang island, 1980 two Japanese soldier were discovered, thinking to be in WW II.
The islands were discovered in the 16th century by Spain sailors, and claimbed for Spain in 1599.

A flight instructor and his student were killed after their two-seat trainer plane crashed into a peanut plantation yesterday morning on Lubang island in Occidental Mindoro.
Initial reports issued by the Air Transportation Office (ATO) said Captain Nestor Mayo, an instructor pilot, and his student, Timothy de Guzman, perished in the crash that destroyed their Piper Tomahawk turbo propeller light plane.
It was not however immediately revealed to media by the ATO the last moment conversation the pilot had with air traffic controllers that could shed light on what prompted Mayo to summon for help and provide clues on the cause of the crash.
