Lucha Reyes (Mexican singer) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Reyes would eventually decide to launch a solo career, and she became popular with Mexican radio listeners, while keeping a busy theater schedule.
Reyes was not a Mariachi singer during this period of her career, she was rather a soprano.
Reyes had taken light clothing with her for her European tour; this, combined with the cold weathers of Europe when compared to Mexico, caused her to get sick and, eventually, to lose her voice.

Lucha Reyes was famous for her lovely voice (singing in the popular cancion ranchera style) and unconventional behavior.
With her songs dubbed by Betsy Pecanins, Reyes Spindola is a fine, fiery Reyes, a fiercely independent woman who is never able to make her dreams come true.
Despite all the music (Reyes dies to the strains of Puccini), the film is never operatic in the Visconti sense; rather, Ripstein goes for a subdued baroque look, with burnished, cluttered sets and dark lighting (camera work by French ace Bruno de Keyzer).

Mexico's Lucha Reyes carried the resonance of suffering in her voice, and the vast bulk of her recorded musical performances are deeply imbued with it, even those that strike a defiant pose like "La tequilera" one of her virtual signature songs.
Reyes seemed always to perform on the verge of the suicide that she will, of course, finally succumb to.
Lucha Reyes also sang with all her heart, but one could feel the suffering with which she invested every word, and her style involved therefore a rhetorically heightened articulation of an appropriately deeply-felt emotion.

Aside from the hundreds of titles that follow which were recorded by my dad, many of his songs were recorded by other artists throughout the decades.
