Brighid Gaelic Goddess of Smith Craft - anvilfire Story Page
Smiths are frequently associated with supernatural powers, including therapy, in folklore, so it is no surprise that the ancient smith gods were credited with similar magical abilities.
N IRISH mythology the divine smith is known as Goibhniu, and he is accompanied by two further aspects, or brothers or associates in typical Celtic triple form: Creidhne, god of metal-working, and Luchtaine, divine wheelwright.
We can see the significance of this triad when we consider that the pagan Irish culture was, in one sense, an aristocratic heroic warrior society: such crafts were fundamental to survival and development.

I have seen a proposal for the PIE religion that there were three craftsmen referred to as the three *Albhwes....sort of a Goibniu/Credne/Luchtar type of thing....I just am not sure of another such triad in another pantheon....possibly Vedic connection lurking in the back of my mind but I can't remember where I saw it.

Personally I had always read it as Luchtaine but the spelling of Luchtar was nearest in my mind since I have been reading through the dictionary during my lunch break at work.
